Khao Luang Fm

Period:
Carboniferous

Age Interval:
Late Carboniferous? (11)

Province:
Sukhothai Fold Belt

Type Locality and Naming

.

Type section: Well exposed on the western flank of Khao Luang, west of Sukhothai province. Parent unit: Upper formation inDan Lan Hoi Gr

Synonym: หมวดหินไพโรคลาสติกเขาหลวง, Khao Luang Pyroclastics

Lithology and Thickness

Mainly agglomerate and volcanic conglomerate with moderately rounded boulders, cobbles and pebbles. The predominant colors are red, purple, reddish-brown and reddish-green, imparted mainly by a matrix of silt and/or clay. Volcanic clasts in the agglomerate are chiefly rhyolitic and, to a lesser extent, andesitic. The clasts in the volcanic conglomerate are dominated by the same kind of volcanic clasts as in the agglomerate but phyllite, metatuff and limestone clasts are also present. Thin red sandstone and fine-grained tuff beds are intercalated with the coarse-grained beds. Bedding varies from indistinct to moderately well-defined and its thickness ranges from a few centimeters up to 1 meter. Thickness: 550 m

Lithology Pattern:
Volcanic ash
